Medical Grade Skin Care

Medical grade skin care is available at Dr Vineeta Aesthetics, following a full consultation and assessment. We offer four different top aesthetic brands, as not one medical brand or regime fits all.

Medical grade skin care has pure, often encapsulated, active ingredients and therapeutic dosages that make cell changes within the skin. This means they are scientifically proven to work and penetrate deeply to repair, restore and prevent many skin conditions or deterioration of the skin’s physical appearance and sensation.

Medical grade skin care cannot be bought over the counter, in shops or salons. It has a scientific evidence base to support the effects that are proven by dermatologists and can often be quite potent in formulation. These can only be assessed for by a registered and trained medical professional and supplied authentically and officially so. Many medical grade skin care products are also prescription only products.

Medical grade skin care is a journey and must be regularly reviewed to ensure your skin gets the right support and treatment all year round. The environment and your lifestyle has a huge impact on how your skin manages. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and has many roles to support us and needs to be looked after carefully.

As we age our skin cell turnover decreases and we lose collagen. Hormones affect our skin laxity, as well as over exposure to UV rays over the years and many more intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

We can treat not only the ageing process and help to reduce the physical signs of ageing but we can treat medical skin conditions such as Acne, Acne scarring, Rosacea, Pigmentation, Melasma, uneven skin tone, large pores, oily/dry or combination skin, dullness, laxity and much more.

Medical grade skin care consists of potent active ingredients such as arbutin, hydroquinone, tretinoin, retinol, vitamin C, peptides, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s), Beta hydroxy acids (BHA’s) and much more.

FAQ

Are there side effects?

Yes but not always, you can experience sensation changes to your skin, often described as tightness, dryness, peeling or inflammation. These are temporary and manageable. More common if the products are not used as directed or incorrectly applied. The products are making changes to your skin cells and contain active ingredients.

Will it work straight away?

No, medical grade skin care is recommended as a life-long journey and you will start to notice subtle changes after the first cell turnover around 6 weeks. For continued improvement to your skin concerns/conditions you will need to keep using the products.

What will happen if I stop using the products?

Stop using them and your skin condition or concerns will return to their previous state and possibly continue to deteriorate.

Are the products strong?

We have many different brands and ranges to offer to suit your desired and individual outcome and journey. Some brands have a higher percentage and potency than others. This will be discussed at your consultation and assessment depending on budget and desired outcomes.

Is the strongest and most expensive the better option?

No, not always. Yes you may get quicker results but as with any medical product the stronger the potency the higher risk for action/reaction of products and increased side effects. Remember it has taken many years for the skin to deteriorate and become damaged and will take a long time to repair and support to function well again.

What brands do you offer?

Obagi Medical, Neostrata, Clinisept, Skinmed & ZO

How do I order the products post assessment?

Brand dependant some we will send you a link for you to access the prescription pad, see recommendations and order yourself. Others will be prescribed and ordered for you. All products are sent directly to your home address. Some products are available to repeat buy or purchase in clinic but only if they have been recommended.

Can I buy the products cheaper online?

Some brands yes you can. However, if they are not sold via a medical professional (listed on the brands websites) following a full assessment then the product authenticity or suitability for you cannot be guaranteed. This will not be supported or covered legally by the manufacturers either.

What do I do if I have an allergic reaction to the medical grade skin products?

Contact your medical assessor and supplier for urgent review and medical advice. Alternatively if you have concerns of facial swelling, airway obstruction or life threatening concerns dial 999. This is extremely rare but could occur the same with any skin care or medication.

Can i have active medical grade skin care if I am under an NHS/private dermatologist or taking medication such as roaccutane?

Generally not no until you have completed your treatment and then waited 6 months. This is due to the thinning effect of the skin some of the medications can cause.

If I have active infected acne or inflammation can you treat with antibiotics and/or steroid cream?

Yes i am an Independant Nurse Prescriber and happy to do this if it is required. However some of these are available from the NHS and if you can access these services from your NHS i would advise you attend your GP surgery first.

What is the best prevention for skin conditions, ageing and to reduce further concerns?

Sun protection Factor 50 (SPF 50) Broad spectrum with UVA and UVB protection. Look for non-comedogenic products.

What do I recommend as a minimum?

Providing suitability to products i would suggest a cleanser, vitamin C, retinol and SPF.

How Does It Work?

Dermaplaning immediately rejuvenates the skin by removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellous facial hair – also known as “peach fuzz.” If you look at the tool used for these treatments, you may notice it looks like a razor you would use on your body hair.

The basic concept is the same as shaving. Aiming a sterile blade at a 45-degree angle and dragging it slowly across the skin removes dead cells, scar tissue, and other debris that may make your skin’s surface look uneven.

Your skin is exposed daily to harsh environmental toxins, irritants, and sun damage. This can cause the top layer of your skin to appear dull and make you look aged. Dermaplaning clears away those damaged skin cells, so newer skin cells are what you see when you look in the mirror. In technical terms, this is responsible for removing keratinized cells on the outer stratum corneum and fine vellous hair! As a result of this process, dermaplaning is also a highly effective procedure for minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars while leaving the skin smooth, supple and vibrant.

Are There Any Side-Effects?

Dermaplaning is a low-risk procedure. However, side effects may include slight redness in your face in the hours after getting the treatment. Some people develop whiteheads on their skin the day or two after your treatment. Infection and scarring are rare after dermaplaning but can occur in rare instances. If you have any worries following your procedure, our therapists will always be on hand to put your mind at rest.

Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker/Darker?

No, The soft, fine vellous hair will grow back slowly – usually in about four weeks.

How Often Can This Procedure Be Performed?

The procedure can be performed every 3-4 weeks. Treating the skin this way removes about 2 to 3 weeks' worth of dead skin cells.
